Important Transportation Changes

        In an effort to serve the families of our district, while also operating in a cost efficient manner, several changes have been enacted in the transportation department. Beginning with the first day of school, the “Late Bus” for after school help/activities (3:45 p.m.) will no longer transport students who live within the Village of Fort Plain, with the exception of Prospect Hill. Permission slips and other correspondence going home with students will indicate that village students staying after school for scheduled activities or extra help will need to provide their own transportation. In addition, please note that the some of the bus runs listed on the school district calendar have changed. The following changes to downtown stops will be in effect as of the first day of school:

        Bus 48 (Route 1) will make the following stops: Intersection of Division St. & Center St., Intersection of Abbott St. & Reid St., Across from Beck St., Trailer Park past Town of Minden barn, 186 State Hwy. 80, Intersection of Valley Brook Rd. & St. Hwy. 80, 147 State Hwy. 80, Catholic Church sidewalk. The following stops have been eliminated from this run: 199 Main St., Intersection of Division St. & South St., 120 Reid St., 154 State Hwy. 80, 172 State Hwy. 80, Honey Hill Road, Beck St.

        Bus 46 (Route 5) will make the following stops: Papa Joe’s, Intersection of Crouse St. & Willett St., Reformed Church --- The following stops have been eliminated from this run: Dairy St., 23 River St.,  Behind the firehouse

       Bus 6 (Route 8) will make the following stops: 19 Douglas St., 24 Hancock St., K-Auto, Dr. Rao’s Office ---  The following stops have been eliminated from this run: 5 Kellogg St., across from the car wash, across from the Charter House.
 

Bus Safety

Student safety is our first priority — Please review these rules with your children:
• The school bus is an extension of the classroom. Behave accordingly.
• Be on time for your scheduled pickup.
• Behave properly at the bus stop.
• Stay back 15 feet from the road while waiting.
• Students who cross the road must do so at least 15 feet in front of the bus AFTER receiving a hand signal from the driver.
• The bus driver may assign students to specific seats.
• Remain seated at all times.
• Items allowed on the bus must fit comfortably on the student’s lap.
• Keep the aisle clear of book bags, musical instruments, lunch boxes, etc.
• No glass containers are allowed on the bus.
• No animals, alive or dead, are allowed on the bus.
• Speak quietly.
• Do NOT use profane language.
• Students should NOT be destructive.
• Keep head, hands, and feet inside the bus.
• State law requires that students get on, get off, and cross only when the bus is at a complete stop with the red light flashing.
• Cooperate with the bus driver.

DRIVING AND PARKING
   In general, there is no parking available for students in the junior/senior high school parking lot. Seniors are eligible for a lottery held each month for a limited number of student parking spaces.

     Students parking on school grounds may have their vehicles towed and will be subject to disciplinary action on the part of the school.

STUDENT DROP OFFS
     Parents driving their children to school are asked to avoid using bus loops prior to and after the school day.
     Junior/Senior high school students should be dropped off either on West Street or in the parking lot adjacent to the gymnasium. If you feel you must drop your child off at the school itself, please proceed to the back parking lot as directed. Your cooperation is appreciated and should make these areas safer for all concerned.
     Students may be dropped off only in the front parking lot of the Harry Hoag School. To insure proper supervision and safety, do not drop your child off at the side or in back of the school. Your cooperation is appreciated and should make these areas safer for all concerned.
