Superintendent of Schools Douglas Burton froze
all accounts effective Dec. 17, initially because of the state
"hold back" in aid. The freeze remains in place due to the
uncertain state aid situation. Any funds which not
encumbered by that date will not be available. New spending
requests require special authorization before they are
processed by the business office.
Burton said contractual agreements will continue
to be satisfied, grant-funded programs will continue to be
utilized, and supplies necessary for the continued operation of
classes and programs will be provided.
Professional development opportunities will not
be eliminated this school year since all conferences and
in-service programs are funded by federal grants. Field trips,
as long as they are academically sound, will not be affected by
the spending freeze.
As recent school years, the district will reduce
energy consumption by reducing heating and air conditioning
wherever possible. During school vacations, areas not in use
will be minimally heated.
