Meals 2010-11 Letter to Parents

Free and reduced lunches

To parents and guardians
It's time to submit free/reduced lunch applications for the 2010-11 school year. Please note the following:

--Applications carry over from last year but only until Sept. 30 You must submit a new application by that date, or your child's free/reduced status will be dropped.  Any charges accrued from that point until we have an approved application on file will be the parent's responsibility. We certainly do not wish to have you accrue these expenses, so please fill out an application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals and the Pesticide Notification Form (this form is also updated each year) and return them as soon as possible (before school starts if possible) to: Fort Plain Central Schools, 25 High Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339,  Attn: Lauri Dahlin.

--Pick up and turn in new applications at the main office of either building or call  Lauri Dahlin at  (518) 993-4000 ext. 3503

-- The reduced price for either breakfast or lunch is just $.25 per meal.

--Your free or reduced meal status is confidential. Our point of sale system allows students to check out in the same manner, regardless of their status.

Thank to those who participate in our Quarterly Lunch Ticket Program for making it such a success. We invite them and everyone else to participate this year for the potential savings this plan has to offer.

•   You may add money to your child’s account at any time.
•   You may still purchase a quarterly meal ticket for your child. A quarterly meal ticket may be used only to purchase meals, not for
separate food items.
•   You may limit the amount your child spends on snacks per day but, you cannot make this amount different for different days of
the week.
•   This account cannot be used to buy vending machine items.
•   Your child cannot charge snacks, but may charge a meal if necessary. We will not let anyone go hungry.
•   If your child loses his/her ticket, the money in the account will not be lost. The account can still be accessed by using your child’s identification number or name.

Child Nutrition Advisory Committee Recommendations - Snacks

To Parents and Guardians:

The Fort Plain Central School District is committed to providing a school environment that promotes and protects children's health, well-being and the ability to learn by fostering healthy eating and physical activity. The district has established a wellness committee, which has developed a local wellness policy. A copy of this policy is available in the District office or on this website. Click here for the school  district's Wellness Policy.

In accordance with this policy, we are asking teachers and parents to work toward providing healthier snacks and treats. Below you will find a list of suggested snacks that could take the place of "traditional" snacks such as cupcakes, candy, and cookies, snacks which have little nutritional value and high fat and/or sugar content. Please make every effort to choose items from this list when sending refreshments for your child's class. Items marked with an asterisk(*) may contain nuts. Your child's teacher is aware of students with nut or other allergies.

In addition, you will find that our cafeteria meals and snacks have been modified to meet guidelines for healthier eating. As always, feel free to contact building principals with your questions or concerns. Thank You.
