General
Information
Board of Education members serve for
three-year terms. Regular elections for two or three seats are held
each year on
the second Tuesday in May, the same date residents vote on the
coming year’s school budget. New board terms begin on July 1.
Any U.S. citizen who
is a resident of Fort Plain Central School District for 30 days
prior to the vote may run for a seat on the board. For information
on how to be placed on the ballot, contact the district clerk.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in the
music suite at Harry Hoag Elementary School.

School Board Members:
TODD McFEE, board
president, was
raised in Fort Plain and is a 1992 graduate of Fort Plain High
School. Since then, he has been in the monument industry and is now
vice president of Humphrey Memorials Inc. of Herkimer. He and his
wife Kristy have two daughters, Morgan and Grace. McFee was first
elected to the school board in May, 2008. He serves on the Support
Services Committee, School-Related Personnel Negotiations Committee
and the Athletic Council.
MARY BETH HUDYNCIA,
board first vice president, earned an associate’s degree in
science from Herkimer County Community College, and both a bachelor
of science degree and master of science degree from the College of
St Rose. She and her husband Richard have one daughter, Liza. A
primary special education teacher for 18 years, Hudyncia has been on
the board of education since 2002. While on the board, she has
served on the Youth Recreation Committee, Support Services
Committee, and Policy Committee. She also is a 5th grade catechist
for St. James Catholic Church.
ANN F. JENKS was
raised in Frankfort and attended Frankfort-Schuyler Central School.
In 1969 she married Bob Jenks and has lived in Fort Plain since
1971. Their Rob and his wife Darcie have two children,
Gregory and Gabriella. Their daughter Donata and her husband Joel
Oldick have a daughter, Emma. Jenks retired from FPCS in
2006 after spending 23 years as a teacher's aide. During her time at
FP, she served as president and vice president of the School Related
Personnel Association and the Sports Booster Club. She was
also advisor for the Classes of 1988 and 1996 and was the Prom
Art Advisor from 1987-1996. Her favorite pastimes are
spending time with her family and friends, camping, reading, and
watching the New York Yankees. Jenks was elected to the board in
May, 2008.

Board of Education Goals for 2010-11
- Summary
INSTRUCTIONAL
PROGRAMS AND SERVICES - Includes reviewing and monitoring
reading and math programs; provide professional development
opportunities; continue to develop pre-k and middle school programs;
incorporate various technologies into the curriculum; raise
awareness and education on issues such as alcohol, drugs, and teen
pregnancy though various programs; increase awareness of Child and
Nutrition Advisory Council; create strategies to reduce d the number
of drop-outs; review professional development activities; begin the
process of an elementary principal search to secure a replacement by
July 1, 2011.
RECOGNITION OF STAFF/STUDENT AND PARENT
ACCOMPLISHMENTS - Facilitate the recognition of outstanding
efforts by staff, community, students, and parents
FACILITIES PLANNING - Continue to
seek out sharing of services with neighboring districts; monitor
capital improvements project; continue discussion with neighboring
districts regarding merger possibilities
TRANSPORTATION - Includes monitoring of contract with
St. Johnsville in hopes of expanding shared services; investigate
5-8 year fleet replacement plan; continue to maintain a 90 percent
or better fleet; research alternative fuel vehicles; secure a
consultant to investigate contract transportation and make
recommendations on purchasing, staffing, and routing.
POLICY REVIEW AND ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW POLICY MANUEL -
Maintain compliance with federal, state and education regulations;
review tuition practices of neighboring districts.
FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE COMMUNICATION THROUGH BUDGETING
PROCESS - Includes maximizing potential to obtain grants and
aid, minimize expenses; increase communication regarding budgetary
concerns; continue annual audit of Medicaid reimbursement program;
investigate possibility of equipment maintenance reserve fund;
require business manager to supply bi-monthly spending report to
board.
