Positive
Behavior Interventions and Supports
PBIS is a proactive
approach to teaching all children what behaviors are expected
and to acknowledge student’s success. PBIS is a proactive way to support all children, youth and their
families based on their strengths and needs. PBIS is a collaboration of: NYS Education Department -
Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals
with Disabilities; NYS Education Department - Office of
Elementary, Middle, Secondary, and Continuing Education; and New
York State Office of Mental Health, and Families Together in NYS,
Inc.

PBIS programs include:
•
Universal Interventions (Universal): All children and adults
learn 3-5 behavioral expectations and what these look like.
•
Specialized Group Interventions (Targeted): Additional support
for children who need it with involvement from their families.
•
Specialized Individual Interventions (Intensive): Teams created
by and for the family with assistance from school to meet their
needs.
Family Members:
• Are encouraged to attend team meetings and regional training.
• Are welcome to PBIS planning and informed of behavioral
expectations and support plans at all three levels of
implementation.
• Can help their children learn the 3-5 behavioral expectations
by reinforcing them at home and in the community.
• Can support positive change in PBIS schools in a variety of
ways that match with families' skill, interests and talents.
What is Family Involvement and Family Support?
•Family Involvement in PBIS means families helping schools create
positive and nurturing learning environments for all children
and youth.
•Family Support in PBIS means schools and communities helping
families to create positive and nurturing environments in the
home, school and community.
Regional PBIS Family Coordinators:
• Are family members with children or youth with special needs,
including those at risk of, and who have complex emotional,
behavioral, and social health needs.
•RPFC's are available to support families, schools, and
communities learn more about PBIS and assist in making a
difference for our children.
Parent Volunteer Needed:
We are currently seeking a parent to serve on the committee as a
parent liaison. If you would like to be considered for this
position, please email Mrs. Nancy Wilder or Ms. Deborah Larrabee
or call the junior / senior high school office and leave a
message.
Meetings -
Meetings are held monthly after school from 2:45 - 3:15 p.m. in Room
55 of Harry Hoag Elementary School. For up-to-date information,
