Library Club
Open to all
interested students in grades 9-12, The Library Club strongly
encourages reading. Whole new worlds are opened through reading, and
we hope we can spread this message to all students. The club meets
in the media center on the third Wednesday of each month during
lunch. We also encourage students to participate in
Battle of the Books.
The club hosts a Scholastic Book Fair
with the goal of increasing the library's collection of paperback
books. High School Librarian Mary VanPatten is club advisor.
National Honor Society
Students who have a
cumulative grade point average of 84.5 percent or higher are
eligible for selection into the National Honor Society. NHS members
must maintain honorable character and conduct themselves
responsibly. They abide by school rules, ask others to do the same,
and represent the chapter honorably. They take responsibility for
their actions even when it is difficult. NHS members uphold
principles of morality and ethics, are cooperative, demonstrate high
standards of honesty and reliability, show concern and respect for
others, and generally maintain a clean lifestyle.
NHS members engage in numerous society-sponsored
projects in school and a commit to support other community projects
in many ways.
Denise Smith is NHS advisor.

OK2XL
Fort Plain Central
School District recognizes that gifted and talented students have
unique needs not always met by the regular school curriculum or by
the ordinary resources of the community. Our programs are designed
to identify such students and their needs to provide individual and
group programs to meet those needs.
Gifted and talented students shall be defined as those
pupils who show evidence of high performance capability and
exceptional potential in areas such as general intellectual ability,
special academic aptitude, and outstanding ability in visual and
performing arts. A gifted and talented committee that is open to all
faculty members on a volunteer basis has final approval of those
students asked to join OK2XL activities. A general guide will be to
provide the most in programs for the most students.
