Two Fort Plain Jr. /Sr. High School cheerleaders go to London for New Year’s parade

Two Fort Plain Jr. /Sr. High School cheerleaders Anna Sweet and Elizabeth Hubbard were two of 500 cheerleaders from around the U.S. who performed in the London New Year’s Day Parade this year. Cheerleaders

They qualified for the week-long trip after being selected as an all-American at a cheerleading camp during the summer. It’s the 26th year where cheerleaders from the U.S. have performed in the event.

The two seniors were a part of a dance team called “Call Me Maybe,” named after a popular pop song. Not only did they get to perform, but they also toured the country. During the summer, the two held a can drive and garage sale to raise money for the trip.

Both students said they had a great time.

“We got to meet a lot of people and do something we can do once in a lifetime. We saw Stonehenge and rode the tube,” said Elizabeth.

Anna said she learned a lot and met friends from all over the U.S.

“It was just a great experience and we met so many people,” she said.
