Top ten students of Class of 2010 |
Jacob DeBoer,
Emily Dahlin head this year's graduating class
Junior/Senior High School Principal Deborah Larrabee has
announced the names of the top ten students of the Fort Plain
High School Class of 2010 as follows.
Vale dictorian Jacob DeBoer, son of
Denise and Jack DeBoer, has been involved in National Honor
Society; Yearbook, editor; Library Club, president; band, jazz
band, all-county-band, chorus, and all-county chorus; and the
afterschool program as a tutor. His awards and honors include
Student of the Year, D.A.R. Good Citizen, CTW Foundation Award,
Permanent Principal’s List, the Dr. and Mrs. Albert Sentochnick
Memorial Award, and Capital Region Scholar’s Recognition Dinner.
Outside of school, Jacob is a member of Utica Church of Christ,
a counselor at Camp Hunt, Hubbardsville, and a second-degree
black belt in Tang Soo Do. In the fall, he will attend Rochester
Institute of Technology to major in digital cinema engineering.

Salutatorian Emily Dahlin, daughter of Lauri and Jim
Dahlin, has participated in Drama Club, National Honor Society,
band, Mock Trial, Pen in Hand Writers’ Conference, and Shine
Youth Camp. Her awards and honors include National Merit
Scholar, Wells College Leadership Award, Siena College
Presidential Scholar, Siena College Honors Fellow, and Permanent
Principal’s List. She is a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic
Church in Fort Plain. Emily will attend Siena College,
Loudonville, as a history major.

Elizabeth R. Carpenter, daughter of Rebecca and David
Carpenter Jr., has been a member of the National Honor Society
and participated in soccer, grades 7-12, and basketball, grades
7-12. Her awards include 90+ Average Award, and Super Sub Award.
She is a member of Cherry Valley Assembly of God Church. After
graduation, Elizabeth plans on taking a course to become a
Certified Nursing Assistant.

Ryan Gonnelly, son of Kelly and David Gonnelly, has
participated in the peer mentoring program, junior varsity
baseball, grades 9-10, and was president of the National Honor
Society. He achieved a 90+ average for four years. In the fall,
Ryan will attend Siena College and major in economics.

Nicholas Hoffman, son of Dianne and John Hoffman, has
been involved in National Honor Society, treasurer; band, jazz
band, and all-county band; ski club, Fort Plain Community
Activities Council; soccer, grades 9-12; and track, grades 9-10,
and he was a summer recreation counselor. His awards include New
York State Scholar-Athlete, and 90+ average. Nicholas will
attend Nazareth College, Rochester, as a physical therapy major.

Sara M. Klock, daughter of William Klock and Linda
Klock, has been a member of Student Council, grades 7-12,
treasurer in grade 12; Library Club, co-president 11-12; class
of 2010 representative, 9-12; Prom Committee, 11; Students
Against Destructive Decisions, 9-11; Superintendent’s Student
Advisory Council, 11-12; soccer, 7-12, captain grade 12; and
track, 7-9. Her awards and honors include Student of the Month,
Mayflower American History Award, 2009 Empire Girls’ State, and
second team Western Athletic Conference all-star in soccer,
grade 12. Outside of school, Sara has been a summer recreation
counselor in Fort Plain and a lifeguard in Canajoharie’s Nellis
Pool. She will attend Siena College to major in political
science and minor in psychology.
Stephen Kn eeskern, son of Sharon and Norm
Kneeskern, has been a member of junior and senior band,
all-county band, and marching band. He has also participated in
track, grade 9, and cross country, grade 10. His awards and
honors include Bausch and Lomb Science Award, Clarkson
University Leadership Award, Proficiency in Living Environment
Award, Undergraduate Band Director’s Award, Highest Average in
AP Biology Award, and Academic Excellence Award. In the fall,
Stephen will attend Clarkson University to major in mathematics.
Ashley J. Smi th, daughter of Rebecca and Jeffrey
Smith, has been a member of Student Council, secretary; SADD,
vice-president; National Honor Society, historian; Prom
Committee, grade 11; and was class of 2010 vice president.
Throughout high school, she has participated in soccer,
softball, and cheerleading. Ashley’s awards and honors include
Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership award, 90+ average, Student of the
Month, WAC all-star, and most improved athlete. In the fall,
Ashley will attend Onondaga Community College as a nursing
major.
Kaitl yn Trembley, daughter of Rebecca Trembley and
Charles Trembley, was a member of National Honor Society, vice
president; Library Club; and OK2XL. Her activities include JV
and varsity soccer, 9-12; JV and varsity softball, 9-12; and JV
and varsity cheerleading, 10-12. Kaitlyn’s awards and honors
include Scholar-Athlete Award, Girls State alternate, and
Student of the Month. She will attend Siena College to major in
mathematics.
Amy William s, daughter of Karen and Raymond Williams,
participated in National Honor Society, peer mentoring program,
volleyball, grades 8-9; softball, grade 10; track, grade 12; and
she was class secretary, grades 8-12. Her awards and honors
include Permanent Principal’s List Award, P.T.A Award for
Leadership, Student Showing Dedication and Effort in Business,
Larry Blake Memorial Award, Outstanding Business Education
Student Award, and CTW Foundation Award. Amy will attend
Onondaga Community College as a restaurant management major.
