Special Education

Fort Plain Central School offers a variety of programs for special education students in grades K-12.  Parents/guardians, students, teachers, and/or physicians may refer a specific case to the Committee on Special Education (CSE); the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE); or the Section 504 Committee.

Rights for Parents of Preschool and School-Age Students with Disabilities

The school district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE) is responsible for developing recommendations for special education programs and services for children. Families/guardians must be given opportunities to participate in these discussion and the decision-making process about their child’s needs for special education.

Federal and state laws ensure families/guardians are informed about and involved in the special education process and that children receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE).

The Procedural Safeguards Notice: Rights for Parents of Preschool and School-Age Students
with Disabilities contains information about these safeguards for families.
