Safety Drills
The district will conduct fire drills (evacuation) and lockdown drills as required by education law and regulation and the fire code without exceptions. Fort Plain will continue to conduct all mandatory fire and lockdown drills according to the existing statutory schedule. Drills will be conducted in a manner that maintains social distancing at exits and gathering points outside the building, while still preparing students to respond in emergencies.
Efforts will be made to ensure that students and staff remain at a safe and healthy place while conducting these drills. In addition to requiring masks and maintaining a safe social distance, the exit routes will be reviewed and modified as needed and consideration will be given to staggering the schedule for drills to avoid congestion in the hallways and designated gathering areas. The drills will include explicit instruction to review for actual emergencies.
The District Safety Team will meet as scheduled in August to develop a schedule to perform the twelve required drills (8 evacuation / 4 lockdown). The drills will continue to be conducted with the assistance of our School Safety Officers and the Fort Plain Police Department. Every effort will be made to ensure that all students participate in the drills and participation will be tracked through attendance logs.
