Winter weather and school closings and delays
Learn how Fort Plain CSD makes decisions regarding weather-related closings and delays.
Dear Fort Plain CSD community:
The decision on whether or not to close or delay is a complicated one.
At Fort Plain CSD, we consider the travel conditions and our ability to open the buildings safely. We coordinate with the building and grounds and transportation departments, local road service teams and we consider the safety of everyone when making the decision.
In all situations, we try to give early notice of any changes. Many family systems rely on the stability of the school schedule to function (i.e. parents need the students to go to school in order to get to their place of employment on time.)
At this point in time, we do not intend to delay the start of the school day based solely on the forecasted cold temperatures. If there are other safety or weather related factors that arise, that decision may change.
As we continue to experience winter weather, we would like to share a few friendly reminders:
- The buildings open for early arrival at 7:30 am.
- We will not have any outdoor recess on days when the temperature is extremely low.
- Please make sure that students wear coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and any other necessary layers to stay warm while waiting for their pick-up and dismissal transportation.
- Please remind your child to avoid waiting outside too early for the bus. Our drivers will give extended wait times when the temperature is extremely low to allow students to wait inside before bus pick up.
- If you need assistance securing winter gear for your child, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher or a school counselor. We have care closets in both buildings that can help to provide winter essentials as needed.
Thank you for your cooperation to keep all of our students safe in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Crisman
